8vo, XIV, 570pp. Hardcover in pale red cloth in good condition with a gilt impression of Pepys embossed on front board with minor shelf wear, t.e.red and minor flecking and yellowing on all edges and no d/w as issued, text in very good condition with delightful endpapers depicting London in 1660’s both east and west of Whitefriars though there is some minor foxing of the first few pages and slight weakening of the front hinge as well as a book-plate of prior owner adhered sensibly to blank verso of the half-title page. No other notations obvious. Samuel Pepys(1633-1703)was an English naval adminisatrator and Member of Parliament who is now most famous for the diary he kept for a decade while still a relately young man. All readers will appreciate this tidy and skilfully abridged version made all the more attractive by the large number of lovely b/w illustrations by the famous Ernest Shepherd of Winnie the Poo fame.
