Description

Roy 8vo, XVIII, 431pp. Hardcover in elegant olive green with black spine and a bold gilt embossing and title on front board and the very firm spine, overall in excellent condition, text in very good condition other than a small 1cm crack to the front and rear hinges and light flecking on all edges. This learned reference work is by the prolific wine writer and leading light in the international wine trade for decades, the great Michael Broadbent. He was 92 when he died in 2020 having famously founded Christie’s wine auctions in the 1960’s. For those who have older wines from anywhere around the wine world fom Bordeaux to the New World, this is a fascinating and brutally honest book though be warned, it does not venture much beyond the late 1970’s for any region. In short it is about vintages: what they are , how they vary and why. It is also about time: what happens to wine as it ages and how long will it last. This means older wines are evaluated – are they nicely mature or over the hill? The amatiur oenophile can really learn enormously from this addition to any wine library.
