8vo, X, 159pp. Hardcover in original smooth green cloth boards with front cover pictorially stamped (Chistopher Robin and Pooh) and ruled in gilt, with spine likewise ruled and lettered in gilt plus t.e.g. The beautiful endpapers showing the “100 Aker Wood” are devoid of any prior owner markings though they are ligthtly toned. There is also an attractive bookplate from a prior owner adhered to the fly-leaf page preceding the half-title. Overall in excellent bright condition with a very sound spine but no d/w and is now protected by clear archival covering, the text and Shepard’s many b/w illustrations are in pristine condition with no foxing and with no hingeing or loose pages though all pages are appropriately lightly age-toned as befitting this century old childrens’ literary masterpiece. This is the classic first collection of Winnie The Pooh stories set around Milne’s home in Ashdown Forest East Sussex. A most beautiful copy of this famous book full of Shepard’s iconic illustrations is a real joy to hold and browse as an adult or careful child.
