8vo, XX, 302pp. Hardcover in light red/brown cloth and original non price-clipped d/w (paper re-inforced), both in very good condition with minor corner and edge wear but with a very sound spine now protected in clear archival covering, text also in very good condition with minor staining to fore-edge, light flecking on top-edge and very slight foxing to endpapers though no internal prior owner markings present at all. Overall, a near excellent copy. Number eight of the Hornblower novels (fifth chronologically), it describes the period after Nelson’s death when following the funeral , Hornblower is posted to HMS Atropos, the navy’s smallest vessel, and sent on a mission to recover treasure from the Mediterranean Sea.
