Description

8vo, XXI, 521pp. Hardcover in original bottle green publisher’s cloth with gilt titles to a bright and tight spine with corners and edges slightly bumped but in excellent unfaded and unmarked condition, text is also in an excellent state with light soiling of edges and a neat prior owner name in pen at upper corner of ffep with both detailed foldout maps at rear of book in as new condition, a frontis-plate of the Beagle and twenty two b/w illustrations throughout including a detailed full page cross-section of the Beagle. The book is certainly in near-fine condition overall. The full title reads “Journal of Researches into the Natural History and Geology of the Countries visited during the Voyage Round the World of HMS Beagle under Command of Captain Fitz Roy, R.N.” and it is precisely as described in a surprisingly approachable format making it very easy reading, including significant areas about Australia such as the Blue Mountains and westward to Bathurst.
