Described by author as her magnum opus in fiction writing, being her longest, the fourth and final one published in her lifetime, depicting a dystopian United States in which private businesses suffer under increasingly burdensome laws and regulations, peopled by larger-than -life heroes and villains and is hence charged with towering questions of good and evil being a philosophical revolution told in the form of an action thriller, long nominated as one of America’s best loved novels. A US Library of Congress survey in 1991, had Americans naming it as second only to the Bible as the book that had most influenced their lives.
