Despite the large text block, the spine is in a very good, tight condition and the binding is devoid of damage other than very minor bruising of two corners, plus top edge is blue and fore-edge is neatly rough cut with the original famous multicoloured first edition unclipped d/w with b/w photo of author on rear cover that is lightly but extensively chipped on all edges, now protected in clear archival covering, text is in excellent condition o/t light tape marks x4 on front and rear free endpapers so overall this book is in excellent condition with 10/57 code written on the bottom flap indicationg it is a true first edition d/w. Described by author as her magnum opus in fiction writing, being her longest, the fourth and final one published in her lifetime, depicting a dystopian United States in which private businesses suffer under increasingly burdensome laws and regulations, peopled by larger-than -life heroes and villains and is hence charged with towering questions of good and evil being a philosophical revolution told in the form of an action thriller, long nominated as one of America’s best loved novels. A US Library of Congress survey in 1991, had Americans naming it as second only to the Bible as the book that had most influenced their lives. In 1983 the book was inducted into the futuristic Prometheus Award Hall of Fame. A true first printing of the first edition remains a genuine rarity.
