Prior to 1987, there was a sustained surge of public and academic interest in NSW local history and this accentuated the lack of bibliographical assistance at the time. Then this book went a long way to filling the gap with Part One embracing the Sydney metropolitan area and Part Two covering the rest of the state including Lord Howe Island and the ACT. The Bibliography was intended to provide a working guide to published directories for NSW 1828 -1950 including almanacs, gazetteers and year books. It occupies approx. 20% of the rear of the published volume.
