Description
8vo, XLI, 443pp. Hardcover in red publishers cloth in excellent condition with a firm, faultless spine and the uncommon second impression green non price-clipped d/w in good condition. Has scuffing and minor d/w abrasions and very small tears to d/w upper spine and front with browning of the top edge, rear edges and spine, now protected by clear archival covering, text is in excellent condition with a small bookseller’s label (Foyles- Charing Cross Rd) attached to the front paste-down but is otherwise totally unblemished internally. This first edition published in the UK, rarely comes with a green d/w missing advertising comments on the rear but this particular d/w has the advertising blurbs present hence making it less rare but still very uncommon, particularly in Australia. This classic of American literature is of course a famous satirical war novel and as the first UK edition remains highly prized. Catch 22 states that if a man is exempted from war missions because he is mad, then his desire to be excused is actually proof of his sanity!
