Donald Friend (1915 – 1989) was of course a famous Australian artist (war artist after 1939) and diarist who lived much of his life overseas and his controversial posthumous diaries about exploits with young boys have still not diminished his extraordinary talent and his love for the island of Bali on which he lived for many years. This is abeautiful book with colour and b/w sketches from Friend throughout his clever prose.
