Description

Roy8vo, X, 191pp. Hardcover in faded scuffed light blue cloth with the uncommon but well worn illustrated d/w (with supporting paper) intact and not price-clipped but in fair condition now protected by clear archival covering, text in good condition with all edges lightly flecked and with some tanning and light soiling on the odd page but no tears and no prior owner markings. This book aims to give a pictorial record of Ardizzone’s work, both as an artist and book illustrator, from his earliest drawings in 1929 to the 1970’s. There are 253 illustrations and 11 colour plates and the selection was made in an attempt to show every aspect of his art and to represent his various interests at all stages of his life. The book is written by his close old friend and indeed brother – in -law so it is a particularly personal account.
