8vo, 253pp. Hardcover in lemon yellow and white boards and a d/w with author’s photograph on the front, both in pristine condition though there is a neat small prior owner’s name in pen on the title page also with an old book dealer sticker adhered to the rear d/w. Now well protected by clear archival covering, text is in excellent condition with no soiling or foxing at all, allowing the book to be classed as overall ‘Fine’ Helen Garner has kept a diary most of her life. This book spans ten years from the late 1970’s just after publication of the famous Monkey Grip. Acknowledged as one of Australia’s greatest writers, her Diaries are a fascinating window into the everyday life of a novelist, story teller, playwrite and non-fiction writer too. Awarded the Australia Council prize for Lifetime Achievement in Literature in 2019.
