Pictorial soft cover with front and rear flaps in decorative blue edges around ancient sepia engravings in good but slightly worn and soiled condition, the text is in very good condition albeit on lightly tanned paper but devoid of all prior owner markings other than a small prior bookshop label from London adhered to the front flap The seventeenth century saw the production of many books of plant engravings, and of these the “Hortus Floridus I ” of Crispin Van de Pass is generally acknowledged to be the masterpiece. This is a well produced but budget copy with appropriate descriptions and b/w illustrations on the facing page. Translated from the Latin by Spencer Savage and with a detailed and important introduction by Eleanor Sinclair Rohde.
