Roy8vo, XI, 630pp. Original cloth hardcover and d/w in pristine condition with trivial nicks at head of d/w spine, now protected by clear archival covering, text in fine condition with book largely unopened and pages with no age discolouration or marks of any prior owner other than the famous autograph of course. This is the highly valued original unabridged autobiography of the Nobel Prize laureate Nelson Mandela (1918-2013) being first published in South Africa as a First Edition 7th printing of that year. The sought after autograph is in fine black felt tip pen, ‘N.Mandela 18.7.95’ very simply and neatly on the half-title page with no dedication or other comments included. Hence it is signed on 18th July 1995 (Mandela’s 77th Birthday), a date that has now become known as the Nelson Mandela International Day.The day following this signing Mandela ratified an important bill, establishing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, set up to uncover human rights abuses during the Apartheid era.
