Description

8vo, 140pp. Pink cloth clean hardcover boards with green leather title label on spine in excellent condition with no d/w as issued, t.e.g. with uncut edges , protected in clear archival covering, This is a reproduction of the original manuscript and internal text is in excellent condition with decorated endpapers using her sister Cassandra’s rather comical colour illustrations of both the Tudor and Stuart houses, with light tanning to the front and rear endpapers being the only markings o/t a pencil listing from a prior dealer on ffep. Included is a reproduction, about half size from a page of the original manuscript. Overall the book is in extremely good condition with minor sunning to the spine and edges, and minor discolouration to the top corners of each page. Hence it is in near fine condition and is certainly a scarce copy. Written in 1790 by Jane who was probably about age 14 at the time, in epistolary form like her later unpublished novella, Lady Susan, Austen was determined to lampoon the conventions of romantic stories of the time as she exhibits her sharp wit and and disdain for romantic sensibillity. A little read title for all Austen devotees.
