Roy8vo 1064pp Hardcover in excellent condition with royal blue cloth boards and silver decoration to front board and silver titles on a very firm spine, Blue linen book mark present and undamaged with only light tanning of all edges and pictorial d/w in very good condition with only minor shelf wear and creases and a small 1cm tear on top front corner now protected by clear archival covering, text in excellent condition devoid of any extraneous notations or prior owner identification. Touted as “The World’s Greatest Cookery Reference Book” it is certainly an extraordinary (and very heavy) tome with over a million words on food and wine with 47 intact colour plates and over 1000 b/w illustrations, fully referenced and indexed and alphabetically arranged as well. Probably best belonging on the shelves of the expert cook both professional and otherwise.Fully revised from the 1938 original edition. Despite its size it remains a a practical guide to good eating with every aspect of the art of cooking being considered and the history and development of French cuisine over centuries is described too.
