Description

8vo, 48pp. Hardcover with brown patterned boards in good condition with a firm and totally sound spine but minor bruising on all corners and slight chipping on edges with no d/w, text and all illustrations in very good condition on lightly age tanned paper with a very small prior owner gift inscription on top corner of ffep and a bookshop sticker on front pastedown from the only English language bookshop in Tokyo Japan (purchased in 2023 not in the 1940’s) as well as minor foxing at front and rear of book. Complete with an amusing mis-spelling of one of the authors on the title page (Burden instead of Burdon), this slim volume was published and printed in London just after the German Blitz in WWII with many of the colour illustrations being made from originals that survived the dangerous trip by ship to England from New Zealand at the very height of the war. A beautiful piece of history really, being defiantly produced as a reminder of the far echelons of the British Empire fighting against the Nazi scourge. One of the ‘Britain In Pictures’ series with twelve beautiful colour plates and twenty-seven b/w illustations.
