Description

8vo, X, 199pp. Hardcover with olive green cloth boards detailed with red, gold and black embossing of the title and a Nordic warrior on the front board and the slightly faded but a very firm spine with no d/w, text is in very good condition overall, t.e.g. missing none of the 75 coloured illustrations with undamaged annotated tissue guards and the only internal damage relates to fine insect holes to the tanned front and rear end-papers with an inscribed name of a prior owner on the ffep as well. The Jungman’s collaborated on this classic volume of Scandinavian life, history and scenery being of course one of the earlier A & C Black 20/- Colour Books that rivalled the Baedeckers of the time. Nico was an Anglo-Dutch painter of landscapes and figural subjects as well as being a book illustrator and decorator. This first edition in very good condition is very scarce world-wide and is recorded as no. 62 in the Inman catalogue.
