Overall the book is in a near-fine state. Amis’s classic comic novel has the male subject overwhelmed by gluttony, booze and lust (much like Amis himself apparently), running loose in America, Supposedly visiting Budweiser University to make deals for his English publisher, he in fact sets out to offend all he meets and seduce every woman he encounters. But his American hosts are made of sterner stuff and a number of characters are introduced, any of whom could be his eventual downfall. The author’s fifth novel.
