Description
small 8vo, 256pp. plus 4 publisher’s catalogue pges and a folding map Hardcover in dark-olive cloth with gilt title on spine and front board and a green and brown hand drawn picture illuminated by a gilt kangaroo on front board as well. Spine is in generally good condition though there are a few examples of minor cracking and hinging mid-book,all three edges are tanned as well with no d/w as issued. text is in a very good state with no loose or missing pages, dark chocolate endpapers are devoid of markings or damage with the tiniest of gold bookshop labels adhered to top corner of front paste-down and the foldout colour map situated before the title page has a small 2cm tear to the spine edge. Strangely there is no spotting or foxing throughout in this small volume that is well over a century old, however all pages are slightly and appropriately yellowed as expected. This book was published under the direction of the Commitee of General Literature and Education, appointed by the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge and seems to be from a number of volumes of ‘Natural History Rambles’ that are advertised in the rear four pages. Other than the map, there are no illustrations or photography however.
