8vo, L, 333pp. Hardcover in slip case that is now well tanned and lightly soiled. the book is in pristine condition with gold and chocolate brown geometric patterning on both boards and a brown spine with the title in gold cursive writing and no spine fading at all. Top edge also in chocolate brown with no flecking or foxing either,now protected in clear archival covering as well, text is also in pristine condition devoid of any internal markings so overall condition is fine. Published anonymously with the words “By a lady ” on the 1811 title page, it is her first published novel. The book has been in continuous publication since 1811 and it sold out in its first print run of 750 copies in mid 1813 with a second printing later that year and was the first Austen title to be republished after her death. A wonderful gift or addition to an Austen library.
