8vo, IV, 303pp. Hardcover in pink patterned boards with grey cloth binding and a heavily sunned tight spine with faded gilt title and decorations in a grey board slip-case in excellent condition as is the book (o/t spine fading), text and woodcut illustrations are pristine and unmarked with burgundy endpapers bearing white illustrations of both Jane and her home at the time of writing, Chawton Cottage with no foxing or stains anywhere in the book. This volume contains two complete novels , Lady Susan and Love and Friendship plus ‘major fragments’, The Watsons , Sanditon, Catharine as well as her ‘minor novels’, Lesley Castle, Evelyn, Frederic and Elfrida, Jack and Alice, Edgar and Emma, Henry and Eliza and the Three Sisters with her The History of England written as quite a young woman.. The definitive text is from Professor R. W. Chapman at Oxford University and as a very early Folio Edition (one of seven published circa 1960) it is fairly scarce.
