8vo, 160pp. Hardcover in black cloth with title on spine and ‘Banned Books’ on front board in excellent condition with no scuffing and a firm spine. d/w is also in pristine condition with a photo of the bombing of Dresden on the lower half of the largely white d/w front. Now protected by clear archival covering, the interior is fine/near-fine with a clear text and as yet no paper yellowing, devoid of any prior reader markings. Strangely the book has attracted a place in the Banned and Challenged Classics list in the US, for it being the subject of a book-burning in North Dakota and a variety of other bans and challenges due to language, sexual references and ‘unwholesome’ religious references . The book is ridden with satire, acid wit and black humour and is regarded as a masterly semi-autibiographic science fiction-infused anti-war novel , an American classic and arguably one of the world’s greatest anti-war books. A must read in this tight concise format preceded by details of an illuminating interview with Vonnegut.
