24mo, 59pp. Hardcover in light brown, slightly insect damaged and worn cloth boards, aeg and gilt titling on front board and spine is sound though with significant external wear, text is in very good condition though with prior owner neat names on half title page and elsewhere. A well loved copy of the thirty-fifth impression of this poem consisting of the prayer of a dying man and both angelic and demonic responses. The poem, written after Cardinal Newman’s conversion from Anglicanism to Roman Catholicism explores his new beliefs of the journey from death throigh Purgatory , thence to Paradise, and to God in seven discrete phases. Likely originally owned and then gifted by Bernadette Doran a nun at St. Vincents Hospital Sydney in 1914. Inspirational reading for those committed to Catholicism
