Description

8vo, 590pp. Hardcover with oatmeal colour cloth boards, titles on both front and on fore- edge, with the red top stain of textbook now faded away plus the rare UK d/w, price clipped with worn extremities is now protected by clear archival covering, text is excellent with head and tail of spine showing very slight crumpling and the endpapers and edges are lightly foxed as are occasional patches on some pages but the book is in an overall very good state. Hemingway wrote only one full-length play and it deals with the adventures of a Fascist organization, The Fifth Column, working within the Loyalist lines in the Spanish Civil War, and unusually the book also includes a collection of short stories by one of the greatest modern writers of the short story (many stories had already been published at time of publication such as The Snows Of Kilimanjaro previously). Like all Hemingway Firsts it is of course very scarce and is certainly rare in Australia.
