8vo, XXVI, 242pp. Hardcover in patterned pale blue textured cloth boards with dark green titling on a firm spine and front board in very good condition with slightly bruised top and bottom of spine in a pictorial d/w with scuffed edges and chipped spine edges in otherwise excellent condition now protected by clear archival covering, text is in an excellent condition o/t the front endpaper being neatly removed as are the many b/w photographic plates throughout with a coloured frontis, elevating the book overall to ‘very-good’ status, despite its age and fep absence as mentioned. Put simply, Mr. Abbott is a great writer, always involving an excellent background of facts. So this book about the early days of navigation on the New South Wales Coast will always be of great interest to both ship-loving people and East Coast historians, focusing of course as the title suggests, on the Hunter Valley and Newcastle regions.
