Together with The Rainbow and Women In Love, ardent Lawrence reaers regard the White Peacock as some of his finest and most immersive writing. Dying at only forty- five years of age, he left England with his wife in 1919 to finally return to Europe in 1929 after extensive travels around the world. His many literary works all aim at puttig the reader in touch with actual life and the White Peacock draws totally on his experiences living in the Midlands.
