Rough cut and with no d/w,now protected by clear archival covering. text in good condition , unillustrated with an attractive birthday gift inscription to the first owner from 1909 on ffep. Considerably aged paper throughout, though with no tears or other marks present and both hinges are in good order with a sound spine. A beautiful second edition copy of the timeless tale of Ratty, Mole, Badger and of course Toad. This edition was published in the same month and year as the first English edition (though Scribners published an edition in New York four days before the Methuen first edition). This lovely copy is the very epitome of an example of true book “patina of age” now in its second century and deserves pride of place on most bookshelves.
