Description

Sq4to, VII, 144pp. Hardcover in mottled coarse grey cloth with gilt titles on the firm spine and devoid of any scuffing or shelf-wear with non price-clipped photo decorated d/w with no chipping, both in fine condition protected by clear archival covering, wearing the medal of recommendation from the Australian Conservation Foundation on the d/w with olive green endpapers and forty four colour reproduction photos with five famous b/w monochromes and thirteen maps and illustrations, this ‘memoir by Max Angus’ is a world famous work of wilderness imagery in pristine as-new condition, clearly in a fine state overall. Truchanas famously died in the Gordon River Gorge in Tasmania’s South-West wilderness on 6th January 1972. He was said to be an ‘extraordinary bushman endowed with physical, mental and spiritual powers one finds only in men of the calibre of Scott or Hilary’. Whilst being a councillor of the ACF, he was also a master -photographer so that the book with its ethereal images remains a priceless lasting memorial to both this great man and the raw beauty of the Australian wilderness.
