8vo, XIV, 399pp. Hardcover in dark green cloth boards with gilt spine titling in an excellent state with some scuffing of spine edges with a cream pictorial twice clipped d/w that is lightly sun affected on the spine with minor foxing on the flaps, text is also very good with mustard colour front endpapers though it is inexplicably missing the rear endpaper,plus there is some foxing at front and rear of the book but the numerous b/w and colour illustrations throughout are all present and undamaged. Being Virginia Woolff’s sister is hardly a great claim to fame in itself but she was in fact central within the Bloomsbury group’s history, perhaps as a silent and insrcutable figure but coming from a privelaged and restricted background, she evolved in both her art and indeed her life.Spalding revealing how throughout this life, she painted with unfailing dedication and extraordinary honesty thereby illuminating the world around her.
