Potter loved interesting words, using \"soporific \" on the first page of narrative but explaining it for the benefit of young readers as well. The very earliest Ist impression  has a noticeboard drawn on p.14 but it was removed after that, due to difficulties in translation as Warne began to eye the overseas market.  Ref.
