All Quiet On The Western Front

Remarque, Erich Maria
1970. Putnam , London, England

Translated from the German by A.W.Wheen, it was first published in 1929 in Germany and basically is said to describe three things:- the war, the fate of a generation and true comradeship. The author's book 'arose out of the consideration that so many men of his generation, who were yet still young, nevertheless lived a friendless, embittered, resigned life without knowing why.' He was himself a German veteran of WWI, so the book describes the extreme trauma during the war as well as the detachment from normality on returning home after the war.

Condition Report

Cover Excellent Condition - Bound in bright red cloth with title in black on the still very sound spine there is minimal if any shelf damage and certainly no lean at all with trivial foxing to some front and rear pages as well as flecking to the front edge in particular. The plain grey and red non price-clipped dust wrapper has minor rear edge discoloration but no chipping or corner bumping and is now protected in a removable clear archilval covering too. - With Dust Wrapper
Overall Excellent Condition - Published in older fibrous paper stock, there are trivial areas of foxing, largely at the front and rear of the book with flecking to the outer and lower edges and the only notation is that of a prior owner in neat pen hand writing to the free front endpaper, so overall it is in excellent condition.
