Another first edition of one of the delightful 20/- Colour Books by A & C Black with the magnificent artworks done by Thomas Mower Martin an English-born Canadian landscape painter often called "the father of Canadian art". The narrative is by a famous Canadian poet William Wilfred Campbell. Possibly these books were done as competition to the famous Baedecker guidebooks so it is not attempting to give a Canadian history but is really describing the great natural features of the land. A delightful book, rare in Australia (Inman Catalogue No. 12)

| Cover | Hardcover with no dust wrapper, in good condition with crimson cloth boards blocked in gilt and beautifully printed in green and lighter crimson original the excellent front board and light affected spine with minor shelf wear only, t.e.g. and light tanning original other edges, very minor water damage original near edge corner of rear board and slight early cracking original rear hinge and minor weakness of and otherwise very sound spine. missing front free endpaper and has a neat signature of prior collector from 1940 original first title page. |
