This is a concise exploration of linguistics by a professor from Edinburgh University who was a pupil of Chomsky's, the American public intellectual, known also for his political activism and social criticism. Now aged 96 the remains a major figure in analytic philosophy and is a founder of cognitive science. Very left-wing the was influenced by Marx and Bertrand Russell in particular. This is a good entry level to the man and his passions.
