Note that this is not the original binding. This book was originally issued in embossed red cloth (as per Wanthrup 129) and was rebound at a later date. A booksellers' label of Angus and Robertson of 69 Castlereagh St is tipped to front fixed endpaper. An insert of advertisements that accompanied the original binding was not included by the binder. Thomas Mitchell was appointed as Surveyor General of NSW in 1848.

Condition Report
| Cover | Hardcover in marbled boards, half bound in green calf, with gilt title original spine with raised bands. both boards show signs of scuffing and there is slight wear to all extremities. |
| Overall | Marble endpapers are clean with cracking of both front and rear hinges, with foxing throughout but largely to front and rear few pages of which none are loose original missing with twelve plates including frontis and seven amazing maps of which four are folded as per publication. all plates have non annotated protective tissue coverings that are undamaged. there is a small tear to the top of the title page otherwise the interior is in very good condition considering the age of the book. |
