Lady Chatterley's Lover
Felt by many to be one of the most beautiful books in the English language, it is certainly one of the most famous. This 'Phoenix Edition' was printed shortly after the failed 'Obscene publications' court case brought against Penguin Books for the first unabridged copies being produced in 1960 and in any modern Penguin paperback copy there is still a tribute to the members of the jury that acquitted the publisher. This is a really excellent hardcover copy, also complete and unexpurgated so that a literature student only has to look beyond the workman's vigorous vernacular and descriptions to appreciate a masterpiece about the English class- system around the time of the Industrial Revolution. The novel is preceded by an interestingand lengthy 'Apropos' written by Laurence.
