No Ordinary Place - The Art of David Malangi

Jenkins, Susan (Editor)
2004. National Gallery of Australia Publications Department , Canberra, Australia

This book was published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name at the National Gallery in Canberra from July to November 2004, curated by the editor who was at the time Acting Curator, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art, National Gallery. Malangi was one of the most renowned bark painters of Arnhem Land famous for his work on the reverse of the one dollar note at Australia's "decimalisation". But this is far too simplistic a claim of fame, for the brilliant, highly relevant work the has done with other contributors and this is an excellent pictorial outline of a superb exhibition, much of which is famous worldwide from the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg through to Lausanne in Switzerland.
