Palimpsest - A Memoir

Vidal, Gore
1995. Random House , New York, United States

Gore Vidal (1925 - 2012) was an American writer and public intellectual known for his cynical epigrammatic wit. His novels and essays criticised the social and sexual norms he perceived as driving American life. (Wikipedia).
“I am not my own subject” he used to say. But, then, surprisingly, he turned his wit and elegant storytelling gifts to a candid memoir of the first forty years of his life. This is an extraordinary rich history from a sworn Democrat with a true social conscience. Elegantly inscribed on the half title page as well.

Condition Report

Cover Excellent Condition - Note: Attractive semi transparent frosted dust wrapper with titles on both spine and front covers with photo portrait on rear cover as well. There are the tiniest abrasions at upper two corners but no chipping. Overall in a near fine state with no price-clipping either.
Overall Excellent Condition - Note: Near fine, devoid of all extraneous marks with no foxing. The corners are very slightly bumped but this is really the only detractor. Vidal’s inscription on the half title page reads -“Jack, from Gore Vidal. To be read in Positano” referencing his time and contacts in Italy. Jack could be Jack Kerouac or even JFK but this is obviously only supposition.
