Port Augusta was explored by Flinders in 1802, surveyed in 1852, became a seaport in 1853 with the first pole of the Overland Telegraph being erected there and then struggled through the terrible drought of 1895 -1903 to be rescued by the development of the Transcontinental Railway from 1912. An excellent photo record of an important and famous town in South Australia.
