Ransome In China, 1927: Arthur's Encounters with Warlords, Revolutionaries and Missee Lee
Ransome at the pinnacle of his life as a political journalist on a four-month-long visit for both an English and a US newspaper was asked to assess contact by the British Foreign Office to the Chinese Nationalists in their Civil War.( the abandoned journalism two years after this book was completed.) Then the narrative moves to 1941 as the writes a tenth S.and A. story as a direct outcome of his 1927 visit, called Missee Lee of course. This is a very "engaging and and enjoyable" book and is only sold to members of the Arthur Ransome Society in its original new state. A wonderful read for Ransome devotees and indeed anyone interested in the time of the Opium Wars.
