Rod and Line

Ransome, Arthur
The Flyfisher's Classic Library , Newton Abbot, Devon United Kingdom

Ransome was born in 1884 into a fishing family, with his father, Cyril (Professor of History at Leeds University) introducing the great Halford's dry fly techniques to the wet fly waters of of Northern England and the would take a keen Arthur fishing as a child in the Lake District, especially Coniston Water, not far from where Cyril would die in 1897 from an accident night-fishing for sea-trout in the River Crake nearby, thereby causing Arthur to abandon the rod and line for several years. Then the became a prolific fishing writer, still fishing into his 80's, dying in 1967. The titles of the Contents page speak volumes of his particular quirky fishing interests such as "The Tackle-Shops", "Fishermen's Patience", "Carelessness" and "Dourness". This a wonderful gift for any flyfisher and as a presentation copy is unparallelled in appeal.
