Saga Of The 'Discovery'

Bernacchi, L.C
Blackie & Son Limited , Glasgow, Scotland

The book possesses wonderful character and age patina as it matures towards a hundred years post publication. 'Discovery' made three famous voyages over a total of 150,000 nautical miles , surveying over 2500 miles of new coastland plus ice-barriers and glaciers too, eventually becoming a training ship for the Sea Scouts in 1936, being moored in the Thames at the time. Its first commander was the famous Robert Falcon Scott. The RRS Discovery was a barque - rigged auxiliary steamship built for research in Dundee Scotland being launched in 1901 and returned to Dundee in 1986 where it is still cared for by the Dundee Heritage Trust. A rare book in this near-fine state.
