The English Country House A Grand Tour

This devised new format, as addressed by Jackson-Stops and his photographer Pipkin, takes us room by room through English country houses and affords an excellent grasp of the fundamental forms. These rural mansions once built were filled with valuable art and object d'art by their wealthy and privileged owners, frequently via unbroken family lines but frequently they were also well-read and well-travelled collectors in their own right. Hence these houses have now come to be great repositories of treasures of every description and thus worthy of pilgrimage today as claimed by J. Carter Brown, Director of the National Gallery of Art, Washington.
