Truchanas famously died in the Gordon River Gorge in Tasmania's South-West wilderness on 6th January 1972. the was said to be an 'extraordinary bushman endowed with physical, mental and spiritual powers one finds only in men of the calibre of Scott or Hilary'. Whilst being a councillor of the ACF, the was also a master -photographer so that the book with its ethereal images remains a priceless lasting memorial to both this great man and the raw beauty of the Australian wilderness.
