Tropic Moon
1943.
Harcourt, Brace and Company
, New York, United States
One of the author's self-described psychological 'roman durs' (hard solid books as opposed to popular books eg Maigret) set in Gabon, West Africa, full of degeneracy and corruption in a colonial outpost. In a larger context, the novel deals with French attitudes towards Africans and the French colonial experience. The Belgian writer Georges Simenon was of course one of the world's most prolific writers in the last century.
