Death of a Salesman

Miller, Arthur
1949. The Viking Press , New York, N.Y., United States of America

Described as being two ''certain private conversations in two acts and a requiem''., this book is a rendition of a superb drama in book form and it reads just as well as it performs. Expensive signed copies are not really scarce in the literary world, so this unsigned first edition example is quite a bargain for the collector. There is little to be gained from a plot description of this so very famous play but suffice it to say that the travelling salesman, Willy Loman is seen in a very simple human situation that touches all audiences and readers alike.

Condition Report

Cover Excellent Condition - Note: The boards are covered in original orange cloth with a profile of an old house in black on the front board and the title in black on a still firm sound spine that is showing minor shelf wear at both top and bottom with a little fading of edges and corners as well. The Dust Wrapper is still bright with a little edge toning on the verso and some minor chipping to all edges and corners with a few mm's of loss at the top of the wrapper spine. It is now protected in removable clear covering however. The wrapper is the true first edition with the letters 'S' correctly positioned on the subject's elbows in the brown and yellow illustration on the front cover. - With Dust Wrapper
Overall Excellent Condition - Note: The text and pages are in excellent condition with no spine cracking and no foxing at all with only very minimal edge toning. The beautiful picture endpapers show the stage sets (by Jo Mielziner in Broadway) and thus help visualize the actual stage version and they are unmarked. There are also no signatures or owner identifiers present throughout this very clean book.
