The Man in the Brown Suit
1924.
John Lane, the Bodley Head Ltd
, London, England
This is Christie's fourth novel ever and regarded as one of her best. A very scarce copy that has been well loved and read for over a century now. It features the first appearance of 'Colonel Race ' who returns in three further novels from 1936 to 1945. Apparently it was originally serialised in the London Evening News between November 1923 and January 1924 under the title 'Anna , the Adventurous'.

Condition Report
| Cover | Fair Condition - Note: In well worn pale burgundy cloth boards that have cracked external margins at front and rear plus all corners are bruised and even a little frayed. The title is readable in gold on the spine but has faded and there are four liquid spots on the front board as well. Internally there is full length margin cracking in the front at the endpaper and at the rear there has been an attempted amateur repair of the same issue but now there is also a major separation between the rear endpaper and the textblock revealing the spine stiitching bands plus the previosly present two pages of advertisements have been removed too. Certainly this is a rare copy for the Christie collector but not really fsuitable for too much handling. It has been left unrestored intentionally but is suitable for successful repairs if deemed appropriate by the next owner. - No Dust Wrapper |
| Overall | Fair Condition - Note: Overall the book is delicate and a little fragile but all pages are present, well attached and intact other than a damaged page 65-66 that is still readable and strangely it is devoid of foxing or any prior owner markings except for a light pencil written name on the free front endpaper. The external covers are the principal detractor of this particular copy. |
