Green Mountains and CullenBenBong
Cullenbenbong is the aboriginal description of an area in the NSW Blue Mountains Kanimbla Valley originating from the swamp and creek of the same name. This volume is actually a combination of two separate books, published here in the same book for the first time in 1949.
Green Mountains is a two part story, firstly of the search, discovery and rescue from a tragic plane crash in the McPherson Ranges in Queensland, largely led by the author as it happens. Then follows the description of his upbringing in a pioneering family isolated in the Blue Mountains, developing resilience and skills that would enable the success of the rescue.
The second book however is a fictionalised rendition of the author’s early childhood in an isolated homestead far from other dwellings or farms. Certainly an endearing read.
