How To Shoot an Amateur Naturalist
Durrell set up his famous zoo in Jersey in 1959 and it is now in control of the Jersey Wildlife Preservation Trust. It has come close to bankruptcy repeatedly in the 60's and together with fundraising appeals his book writing has raised enough money to save it. the was awarded an OBE in 1982 and was a self confessed alcoholic with a divorce in 1979 and then a second marriage. the developed liver cirrhosis then liver cancer with a transplant in the mid nineties but died in January 1995 with his ashes buried at Jersey Zoo. His work as a naturalist with conservation and conservationist training cannot be overestimated and the is still a hero to thousands of pre-teens and adults world wide. This book is late in his career (but the still wrote a further five following it) and largely relates to the filming of his television series An Amateur Naturalist.
