The Bafut Beagles

Durrell, Gerald
1954 (First Edition, Second Impression). Rupert Hart-Davis , London, England

Perhaps the main book that led to Gerald Durrell's fame as an author writing about his adventures in the Cameroons (the 'Beagles' referring to a group of mongrel dogs the used for hunting the rare animals the sought). Still a very nice copy though this is the second printing. Apparently this is Durrell's second book and the first to be illustrated by Ralph Thompson."It was Hart-Davis who bought author and artist together in a partnership that lasted for more than a decade"

Condition Report

Cover Blue cloth hardcover with silver title original the sound spine that has minor bumping at both ends but is otherwise pristine plus and appropriate worn non price-clipped (15s) illustrated grey dust wrapper with tanning of verse and chipping at all edges with a prior owner's attempted repair with staining cellotape to top and bottom of spine verse and now also with a removable clear archival covering for protection.
Overall Internally the otherwise clean endpapers have tan-stained strips to both free endpapers and the book is devoid of foxing original any warping though the top blue edge has faded now, however it still remains in a very good state overall, (the faulty but scarce dust wrapper not withstanding).
